About
The HiFi Club is one of the most recent additions to the Leeds' club scene, having opened in October 2000. It offers an alternative to the city's vibrant dance music scene by offering a range of DJ led and live music nights based around jazz, funk, soul and hip hop.
With a capacity of 350, the emphasis is on a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere with friendly, welcoming door and bar staff, and a cosy environment of natural brick and woodwork, with warm leather booths and cube-style seating.
The HiFi Club is owned and run by a group of people who have been influential in the Leeds nightlife scene since the early 1990s, many of them most recently at the late lamented 'Underground' club venue.
The HiFi Club will be celebrating its 2nd birthday in October 2002.
Following the demise in July 2000 of the Town & Country Club, its sister venue the Underground, and also the acclaimed Duchess of York, The HiFi Club has helped fill the gap in the live music scene in Leeds by providing a home for live jazz, reggae and hip hop bands, with regular live music sessions on Thursday evenings, Sunday daytimes, and Sunday evenings. Tuesday nights play host to a variety of diverse one-off events, including comedy, live band showcases (including the debut performance by the much-touted Leeds' based 'The Music') a recent live gospel hip hop event, and a Swing night featuring dance classes and 11-piece Swing band.
The other nights of the week play host to a number of regular weekly club nights, spanning contemporary R&B and Hip Hop, to Motown and Northern Soul, 70s Funk, reggae and Latin.
