Lissa Schneckenburger

Location: Brattleboro, Vermont, United States
- Lissa Schneckenburger

Fiddler and folk singer Lissa Schneckenburger grew up in Maine as an active member of the folk community, where she learned to play at the feet of some of the most venerable musicians in New England. She has continued to explore music throughout her life, leading to her graduation from The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts (2001). Lissa has now played all over the world, including appearances in Russia, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Canada, and the United States. Her most recent, self titled, independently released recording is a mix of what Lissa does best; traditional New England fiddle tunes mixed aptly with beautiful folk songs and intricate originals. While embracing a diverse pallet of musical influences, she still stays true to her New England roots.

Band Interview

How many band members do you have?
What year was your band formed?
How would you describe your music?
We play traditional New England fiddle music and songs. Half of our pieces are instrumental, and feature the violin in different types of dance tunes. The other half are vocals- often songs that are hundreds of years old, but performed and arranged in a contemporary setting. We've done a great deal of research on traditional music from the northeast part of the US, and that music makes up the bulk of our repertoire.
What live experience have you had?
Everything from playing local fiddle contests when I was 6 and 7 years old (every county in my state had its own fair- mostly for agriculture, but each fair also had its own fiddle contest) to touring the national (US) folk festival circuit last summer. I really love to do workshops, and teach at camps. There is a great new generation of fiddlers and folk musicians coming up through the ranks and its a treat to get to meet some of them from time to time.
What are the most recent venues you have played at?
What type of events are you available for?
If you are a tribute band please provide your song list here:
In most traditional music the concept of "covers" doesn't apply. Most of the repertoire is 100's of years old, and has been played by that many or more people over the years. However, sometimes I do perform songs written by my very talented song-writing friends. And occasionally if I'm in the mood, I might do a legit cover as an encore- whatever I feel like playing (Bob Dylan, Richard Thompson) just so that I can leave the audience with something familiar that they can all sing along to.
Do you have any Music or Merchandise for sale?
How much notice would you need to attend an event?
Do you have a lot of fans that attend your gigs?
Is there anything else you would like to add?
